Bristol Walking Festival

Description Of Walking Festival

Bristol has successfully completed its first Bristol Walking Festival held 5 to 12 May 2013. With a series of walks that took place throughout the eight-day programme, we would like to say thank you to everyone who helped to organise the events, promote the festival and take part in the walks.

Funders and supporters

Get out and about with the Bristol Walking Festival 2014, from 26 April to 26 May 2014.

Bristol Walking Festival aims to inspire more people to go walking, showcase the city both locally and nationally and celebrate Bristol’s reputation as a green, vibrant and creative place.

Voted European Green Capital for 2015, we want to lead the way in the build-up with a dynamic and exciting programme for the walking festival.

Last year over 30 organisations involved with the delivery of the week-long festival, this year we plan to double that and provide an even more varied programme with up to 100 walks and events.

The festival programme will include walks around four themes:

  • Walking with art and creativity
  • Walking for active travel
  • Walking for leisure and learning
  • Walking for health

Get involved

Please return your forms to us by Monday 3 February 2014. We will be in touch by 28 February with further details and to confirm if you're part of the progamme.

We will update this page by early April with the final walk and events programme, along with any opportunities for volunteering.

  • Some benefits of wearing Base Layers Have you ever wondered why you may have stiff or sore legs after a long walk outdoors? Or, do you perhaps feel cold after hiking or maybe too hot and need to peel off layers?  Well, if you can answer yes to these questions, then you may need to invest in a good quality base layer - or at least perhaps consider changing your current base layer for one made with alternative and better material.A base layer is designed to be worn underneath your normal outdoor gear and its key purpose is to ‘trap’ a...

  • If you enjoy walking, hiking, trekking or like to find out about a new village or town, or a new national park, walking festivals are excellent ways to see the different parts of the country with local guides. These events and festivals are often organised by local people who know the walks and the areas very well and more often than not are non-profit events, meaning the walks are either free or only a small amount of money.Read more »
